Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — The United Kingdom (UK) delegation in Manila is confident about the results of the May 9 elections.
In an interview with CNN Philippines, UK Ambassador to the Philippines Asif Ahmad said they are now expecting positive changes based on the promises made by presumptive president Rodrigo Duterte.
Ahmad is one of the foreign observers who watched the conduct of Monday’s elections (May 9).
“Violence in the world coming from extremism, this is something we are concerned about the Filipino and it requires a global effort. We are very encouraged on what Mayor Duterte’s made on his platform and pronouncements.”
Earlier, the United States (U.S.) Embassy in Manila released a statement praising the Philippines and soon-to-be president Duterte in the wake of the elections.
The embassy said the U.S. is looking forward to continue deepening bilateral relations with the new administration.
