95% of Filipinos hopeful of 2017, Mindanaoan optimism hits record high – SWS

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — Most Filipinos are looking forward to 2017 with optimism, a new Social Weather Station (SWS) survey said on Thursday.

A whopping 95 percent of Filipinos are entering the new year with hope. This is an all-time high since the first survey on this topic in 2002, SWS said.

Hope for the new year improved by three points from 92 percent in 2015.

The hopeful spirit is widespread in all areas, with 97 percent in Luzon, 95 percent in the National Capital Region, and 92 percent in the Visayas.

In Mindanao, where the score is customarily lower, hope reached an all-time high in 2016 at 95 percent from 88 percent the in 2015 and 91 percent the previous year.

The optimism is high regardless of socio-economic class, the survey noted.

Some five percent of the public, however, will enter 2017 with fear. This is three points down from eight percent in 2015.

The survey was done on December 3 to 6 among 1,500 Filipino adults.
