
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — De La Salle University’s Ben Mbala is leading the UAAP men’s basketball tournament MVP race after tallying the most number of statistical points (SPs) after the first round.
Mbala is averaging 20.7 points, 16. 3 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game, good enough for 95.29 SPs. He leads the league in scoring and blocking, while he ranks second in the rebounding department.
The Green Archers are still unbeaten after seven outings.
Overall statistical points is the basis for awards in the UAAP.
Adamson’s Papi Sarr and Jeron Teng of La Salle are second and third with 71.4 and 56.3 SPs respectively.
Raymar Jose of Far Eastern University is fourth with 54 SPs and Paul Desiderio of the University of the Philippines is in fifth with of 53.9 SPs.
Soaring Falcons rookie Jerrick Ahanmisi is sixth with 51.9 SPs, while Matt Salem of National University ranks seventh with 51.3 SPs.
Alfred Aroga of National University occupies the eighth place with 51.1 SPs, Prince Orizu of FEU is at ninth with 48.6 SPs, and J-Jay Alejandro of NU and Thirdy Ravena of Ateneo are tied for 10th with 46.6 SPs.
The second round of UAAP action will begin on October 8 (Saturday) at the Mall of Asia Arena. UST will go up against UE in the first match at 2 p.m. to be followed by the main game featuring UP and Ateneo.
