Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 27) — Three people were killed and five wounded in a drive-by shooting, police said Wednesday.

Senior Inspector Hernan Gabat, deputy police chief of the Polomolok Municipal Police Station, was killed when two unidentified gunmen aboard a motorcycle fired at Gabat and his companions late Tuesday, said Polomolok Municipal Police Station chief Aldrin Gonzales in his police report.

Gabat died from a single gunshot wound on the left side of his body, police said, adding that the bullet was fired from an Armalite rifle.

Carl Plomillo and Rio Salig Jr., both personnel from the Polomolok Bureau of Fire Protection, were also killed.

Five others were injured in the shooting, and they were identified as Edgar Luzon, Jade Silva, Riza Diamante, Relyn Pitogo and Garizalde Villacora.

The shooting occurred at 11:50 p.m. on Tuesday as Gabat and his group were in Mang Ephoy’s Lechon House, the police report said.

Polomolok is a town in South Cotabato, which is more than 1,600 kilometers from Metro Manila.

The initial investigation showed that Gabat appeared to be the target of the gunmen, who were able to escape, police said.

Police added that they are still pursuing the gunmen and are determining the motive for the shooting.
