Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 7) — It is the first day of the Philippines Football League (PFL), and players delivered plenty of goals to mark the occasion.

Manila Meralco FC opened their campaign with a comprehensive 5-1 thrashing of hosts Stallion Laguna FC on Saturday afternoon at the Biñan Football Stadium.

Curt Dizon sealed his place in history by netting the first goal of the league after slipping the ball pass keeper Roland Sadia in the ninth minute of the game.

Stallion found the equalizer in the 34th minute mark, after Ryota Ishikawa swung in a free kick.

But it only took Loyola to restore their advantage through Tahj Minniecon.

The floodgates truly opened after halftime, with Milan Nikolic, James and Phil Younghusband all finding the back of the net to pile on the misery for the home team.

Kaya holds Ceres

Over at the University of Makati, Kaya FC Makati held early championship favorites Ceres Negros FC to a 1-1 draw to open their campaign.

Philippine international Iain Ramsay gave Ceres the 1-0 lead before the halftime break.

But Kaya refused to be defeated on their own home turf, and duly scored the equalizer in the 69th minute through Marwin Angeles.

There were no other goals in Makati, with both teams forced to share the points in their opening fixture.
