
Manila (CNN Philippines Life) — This weekend, attend exhibits by two renowned Filipina artists, know what you can do about women’s issues at a meet, listen to “unpopular music” by sound artists, watch rare short films by a Thai filmmaker, attend the music video launch of a band’s next single, and bask in the sunset while enjoying the music of the country’s premier orchestra.

Grrrl Gang Manila’s Grrrl Meet #2
If you missed the first Grrrl Meet, Grrrl Gang — a group offering “safe, non-judgmental space for women” — is hosting another meet on May 6, to talk about getting into formation and moving to create social change, building up on the first meet’s agenda of women’s issues and what can be done to solve them. Meet #2 will be held at Unit V, the Gallery Bldg., Amorsolo St., Legaspi Village, Makati City. Admission is free.

“Medusa” by Wawi Navarozza and “・・・” by Issay Rodriguez at Silverlens Galleries
Wawi Navarozza’s “Medusa” opens alongside Issay Rodriguez’s “・・・” at Silverlens Galleries on Saturday, May 6. Navarozza is a multi-disciplinary artist known for her works in photography, and for “Medusa,” she “calls forth the Medusa and the Gaze that can turn the Seen into Stone,” putting together large-format photographs, a sculpture/installation, and a durational painting for this exhibit.
Rodriguez’s “・・・” reveals “a silent manifestation of social contract written in between traces of our material culture,” through a series of framed works on paper, with an installation of fabric books, combining found objects with her distinct laborious artistic process. The exhibits will run until June 3, 2017. Silverlens Galleries is located at Lapanday Center, 2263 Don Chino Roces Avenue Extension, Makati City.

Kamuning Public Radio #6 at Green Papaya Art Projects
Kamuning Public Radio, “a performance series for unpopular music,” will feature Inconnu Ictu (Roger Llagas Lopez) and Seido (Toshiyuki Seido) on May 6, beginning 10 p.m., at Green Papaya Art Projects, 41B T. Gener St., Kamuning, Quezon City.
Inconnu Ictu “creates systems that interrupt themselves, working with feedback loops, guitar pedals, and homemade synthesizers,” while Seido “juxtaposes silences, pure sound, field recordings, and instrumentation, constructing different worlds from their interplay.” Admission is free.

Short Films by Apichatpong Weerasethakul
The Museum of Contemporary Art and Design is hosting a free screening of acclaimed Thai filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s short films, including “Nokia Short,” (2003) “M Hotel,” (2011) and “A Letter to Uncle Boonmee” (2009). The films comprise rarely seen shorts made over the past 14 years, produced in a variety for formats. Admission is free. Screenings are on May 5 and 12, 3 p.m., at the De La Salle College – St. Benilde SDA Cinema, 12th floor.

Wide Eyed Records Nite x “Maginhawa” Music Video Launch
Ang Bandang Shirley’s music video for “Maginhawa” will be launched at Route 196 on May 6, along with an “It’s Maginhawa” drink from Moonleaf Tea Shop. Other artists from production outfit Wide Eyed Records will also play, such as Rusty Machines, Oh, Flamingo!, Halik ni Gringo, and We Are Imaginary. Performances start at 8 p.m., with free “It’s Maginhawa” Moonleaf drinks for the first 50 guests. Entrance is at ₱250 with a free drink.

Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra sunsets at Makiling
The country’s premier orchestra, the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, brings music from beloved operas, such as Felipe De Leon’s “Noli Me Tangere,” Guiseppe Verdi’s “La Traviata,” and Georges Bizet’s “Carmen,” in the bwith the backdrop of the sun setting behind Mount Makiling.
International Filipino baritone Andrew Fernando is the concert’s music director and vocal coach. The event also features soprano Nerissa De Juan, mezzo soprano Ma. Krissan Manikan, tenor Lorenz Lapresca, and baritones Belford Mabunga and Joseleo Logdat.
Watch the event on May 6, 2017, 5 p.m. at the Tanghalang Maria Makiling open theater of the National Arts Center in Los Baños, Laguna. The program is part of the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ outreach to bring classical music to cities and towns.
Jeepneys to the National Arts Center will be available at the Baker Hall of the University of the Philippines Los Baños from 2:00 p.m. on May 6, 2017. One-way fare is ₱50. The event is free for the public.
