Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 30) — The House of Representatives overwhelmingly dismissed the impeachment complaint filed against President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday.
Voting 214-4, the House junked the complaint filed by Rep. Gary Alejano of Magdalo.
Alejano was one of the representatives who said no to the dismissal, along with representatives Teddy Baguilat, Tom Villarin, and Edcel Lagman.
On May 15, the House Committee on Justice voted against the complaint, citing its lack of substance despite sufficiency in form.
Committee chairman, Rep. Rey Umali, said Alejano’s complaint was based on hearsay and not on personal knowledge.
A new impeachment complaint cannot be filed against Duterte until May 9, 2018, or a year after Alejano’s filing.
