Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — The Far Eastern University (FEU) Lady Tamaraws kept their semis hopes alive after outlasting the University of the East (UE) Lady Warriors, 25-14, 25-18, 27-25, on Wednesday afternoon at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Gel Cayuna had 13 excellent sets, while Bernadette Pons tallied 11 points for the Lady Tamaraws.
A six-point rally together with an impressive floor defense propelled FEU to capture the opening set.
The Lady Warriors managed to trim the deficit to two, but the Lady Tamaraws found a way to escape and grab a commanding 2-0 set edge.
It was a nip-and-tuck affair in the third frame, but FEU was determined to close out the match.
The Lady Tamaraws cruised to their sixth win in 12 outings, while UE remained winless in the second round of the tournament.
FEU’s next assignment is the National University Lady Bulldogs on April 1 (Saturday) at the Mall of Asia Arena.
