Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — After a long wait, pensioners can now avail of the P1000 increase.
Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea released Wednesday afternoon the memorandum granting the pension hike for qualified Social Security System (SSS) retirees, survivors and permanently disabled pensioners, effective January 2017.
The increase was expected a week ago, but was delayed due to the lack of a formal instruction from the Palace.
To date, there are around 2.2 million pensioners in the Philippines.
The hike was approved along with a 1.5 percent increase in the contribution of SSS members effective May 2017.
