The Tacloban Airport has also resumed normal operations on Sunday morning after the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and the Philippine Air Force cleared it of fallen trees and other debris, as Urduja battered Eastern Visayas on Saturday.

Authorities suspended operations on Friday noon, which prompted authorities to cancel all commercial flights coming in and out of the airport.

On Friday, Tacloban City was placed under a state of calamity after Urduja brought heavy rains that flooded more than half of the city, forcing the evacuation of over a thousand families, local officials said.

The CAAP also said the following airports in Region 8 are open, despite sustaining minor damage from the storm:

Calbayog, Samar

Catbalogan, Samar

Catarman, Northern Samar

Borongan, Eastern Samar

Guiuan, Eastern Samar

Ormoc, Leyte

Hilongos, Leyte

Tacloban, Leyte

Maasin, Southern Leyte

Biliran

As of 11 a.m. Sunday, state weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Urduja slightly weakened after crossing the Samar provinces.

Scattered to widespread rains will continue over the southern part of Quezon, Batangas, Mindoro provinces, Marinduque, Romblon, and northern Palawan, including Cuyo and Calamian Group of Islands, PAGASA said.
