NBA: Two-time All-Star David Lee retires

(CNN Philippines) — Two-time NBA All-Star David Lee announced on Instagram that he has hung up his sneakers after 12 years in the league.

The three photos in the post show Lee surrounded by friends and family in a surprise retirement party highlighted by fireworks and paraphernalia from his different stops in the NBA.

“An epic night celebrating my retirement with my friends and family!” Lee said in the post on Monday Philippine time. “Thank you to my amazing fiancée @carowozniacki for planning the surprise!”

The former Florida Gator was drafted into the National Basketball Association (NBA) by the New York Knicks with the 30th pick of the 2005 Draft.

Lee won a championship with the Golden State Warriors in the 2014-15 season, before being traded to the Boston Celtics soon after.

Before announcing his retirement, the 34-year old big man suited up for the Dallas Mavericks and the San Antonio Spurs.

In his final season with the Spurs, Lee averaged 7.3 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.6 assists.

Lee finished his career with averages of 13.5 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 2.2 assists.
