Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 30) — Beginning next year in Manila, growing older also means getting richer, even by just ₱800.
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno signed Monday an ordinance granting senior citizens a higher amount of cash gift worth ₱800 in time for their birthdays.
“If Makati can do it, why not Manila? I hope you don’t get a bad impression of me copying this. Ako naman, hindi mahihiya kapag nangongopya. [I don’t shy away from copying things,]” Moreno said during the signing ceremony.
The new measure amended a city ordinance which provided only a ₱500 cash gift for senior citizens for their birthdays.
Funding for the cash gift will come from the city’s annual budget.
