Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 5) — The Navotas city government declared a lockdown on a barangay hall and all places within a 50-meter radius from it beginning Sunday in a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the area.

In an executive order signed yesterday, Navotas Mayor Toby Tiangco placed the NBBS Dagat-dagatan barangay hall and all areas falling within the said radius from the building under lockdown. This shall run from 5:01 a.m. of July 5 until 11:59 p.m. of July 18, read the order.

Base sa datos, nakita po natin na maraming kaso ng COVID-19 sa nasabing lugar kaya kinailangan ang lockdown para maiwasang kumalat pa ang virus,” he said in a Facebook post. As of July 4, the barangay has the highest number of active cases in the city at 45.

Residents within the 50-meter radius of the concerned barangay hall are prohibited from going outside their homes. Relief packs will be delivered to them by their respective barangay leaders, assured Tiangco.

However, frontliners and essential workers, including those working at the Navotas Fish Port Complex are exempted from the lockdown, along with individuals with medical emergencies.

The official also reminded those reporting to work to bring their company ID or certificate of employment as well as observe health protocols like wearing masks, observing social distancing, avoiding forming crowds and frequent washing of hands.

To date, Navotas City has 638 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 298 of which are active.
