Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 8) — A trader in Parañaque City was arrested on April 30 for selling isopropyl alcohol with misleading solution.
In a statement released only on Friday, the National Bureau of Investigation arrested Rolando Rapisura, Jr. for selling a 44.7% isopropyl alcohol despite labeling it as 75% solution.
The suspect was arrested in his store during an entrapment operation by the NBI-International Airport Investigation Division. Rapisura was caught receiving ₱75,000 from the poseur buyers in exchange of two bottles of one liter of isopropyl alcohol.
NBI forwarded the samples of alcohol to the Food and Drug Administration for testing. Results showed that the alcohol from the suspect’s store is diluted.
Rapisura was presented before the city prosecutors office for violating R.A. 11469 or the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act, and R.A. 7394 or the Consumer Act of the Philippines.
Experts said that at least 60% alcohol solution is effective in killing viruses.
