Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 5) — The Department of Health reported on Tuesday that 47 more health workers have caught the coronavirus, bringing the total to 1,819, as recoveries rose to 350.

The DOH said 685 nurses, 590 doctors, 107 nursing assistants, 70 medical technologists, 34 radiologic technologists, 20 respiratory therapists, 21 midwives, 15 pharmacists and 277 others, including barangay health workers and administrative aides, have contracted COVID-19.

Of the number, 1,435 are active cases or those who are currently ill, 440 are asymptomatic or have no symptoms, 986 have mild symptoms, while nine are severe cases.

It said the new total means 19 percent of the country’s COVID-19 infections, or one out of five cases, are health workers. There were 31 more, however, who survived the viral illness.

Meanwhile, the death toll among health workers remains at 34, with 25 doctors and seven nurses succumbing to the infection.
