Filipinos abroad infected with COVID-19 rise to 2,360

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 16) — The number of overseas Filipinos infected with COVID-19 has climbed to 2,360 with 30 new cases recorded, said the Department of Foreign Affairs on Saturday.

The death toll among Filipinos abroad now stands at 274, with five additional deaths recorded from the Americas, Europe, and Middle East, the agency said.

Meanwhile, there are now 824 recoveries, with the agency having recorded 35 more. “Today marks the 4th consecutive day of more recoveries and fatalities among Filipinos abroad as reported by our Foreign Service Posts,” said the DFA in a tweet.

There are 46 countries and regions across the world where there are Filipinos with confirmed COVID-19 cases. Some 690 cases have been recorded in Europe, while 685 have been posted in the Middle East and Africa. This is followed by the Americas at 540 cases, and the Asia Pacific region at 445.

Over 4.55 million people have caught the coronavirus worldwide, while nearly 308,000 have died from it.
