Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 12)— Two facilities in Central Luzon will soon open their doors as designated quarantine centers for COVID-19 patients.
The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) reported Sunday that the quarantine centers at the ASEAN Convention Center in Clark, Pampanga and the New Clark City Government Building in Capas, Tarlac will be ready to house COVID-positive patients with mild or no symptoms starting this week.
Simulation exercises were conducted over the weekend ahead of the centers’ opening.
The facilities will accommodate around 1,000 COVID-19 patients referred from hospitals in Central Luzon, BCDA said.
COVID-19 response chief implementer Carlito Galvez meanwhile said the government expects nine more mass quarantine facilities to open in the coming weeks.
The government has earlier tapped the Philippine International Convention Center, the World Trade Center in Pasay City, and the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila to serve as COVID quarantine centers.
The Philippine Arena in Bulacan— the world’s largest indoor arena— will also be transformed into a “mega quarantine facility” for suspected COVID-19 patients from the region.
As of Sunday, the Philippines has recorded 4,648 cases of the infectious disease, including 297 deaths and 197 recoveries.
