Qatar bans travelers from PH, 13 other countries amid coronavirus worries

Qatar has recorded 15 cases of coronavirus.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 9) — Qatar has temporarily banned the entry of travelers from the Philippines and 13 other countries over coronavirus concerns.

The Philippine Embassy in Qatar posted the advisory on Monday, which was signed by Ambassador Alan Timbayan late Sunday night.

It announced the state is banning the entry of Doha-bound passengers with travel history to these countries within February 24 to March 9:

-Bangladesh

-China

-India

-Iran

-Iraq

-South Korea

-Lebanon

-Nepal

-Pakistan

-Philippines

-Sri Lanka

-Syria

-Thailand

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the Philippines rose to 10 after the Department of Health (DOH) recorded four more cases on Sunday. The new cases came a day after the DOH confirmed local transmission of the virus in the country after a 62-year-old man from Cainta, Rizal with no previous travel history outside of the Philippines tested positive for the virus. His wife later on also tested positive.

President Rodrigo Duterte has declared a state of public health emergency upon the recommendation of the Health Department. It will allow for easier access to financial resources to control the spread of the disease in the country.

DOH also raised Code Red sublevel 1 — a “preemptive call to ensure that national and local government and public and private health care providers can prepare for possible increase in suspected and confirmed cases.”
