Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 31) — Private hospitals in Quezon City have agreed to refer all potential and confirmed cases of COVID-19 to the local government.

Quezon City government on Monday said this will be the “automatic” response when a person showing COVID-19 symptoms goes to a hospital in the city.

In response to overcapacity in hospitals, the Department of Health has ordered that persons under investigation or PUIs and positive COVID-19 patients who exhibit mild symptoms be sent home for strict self-isolation and close monitoring by local health authorities.

But the Quezon City government earlier lamented that some of the residents sent home were not practicing social distancing, noting they lived in urban poor communities. To contain the spread of the viral disease, the city government transferred them to an alternative medical facility.

The biggest city in Metro Manila is opening Hope II on Tuesday. The city’s second quarantine site is located in Quezon City University Complex in Novaliches. The quarantine facility has a 168-bed capacity for PUIs who are unable to undergo self-quarantine in their homes.

Quezon City has a total of 140 COVID-19 cases, 26 deaths, and 10 recoveries.
