Calamba, Cagayan de Oro report first cases of COVID-19

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 25) — The cities of Calamba and Cagayan de Oro reported Wednesday their first cases of COVID-19.

Calamba Mayor Justin Marc Chipeco announced on Facebook that the first patient with COVID-19 in the city is a resident of Barangay Canlubang. No further details were provided about the patient.

The city government said it is now tracing people who have come in contact with the patient. It also appealed to residents to stay at home.

The province of Laguna recorded its first COVID-19 case on March 15. As of Tuesday, the province reported eight patients with the viral disease.

Meanwhile, the Health Department in Northern Mindanao said a 71-year-old man is the first patient with COVID-19 in Cagayan de Oro City.

Nationwide, 636 people have acquired COVID-19, a respiratory disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Thirty-eight of them have died, while 26 have recovered.

The man arrived in Cagayan de Oro from Manila on March 12 and was admitted at the Northern Mindanao Medical Center four days later with fever, chills and cough. He is now in stable condition, the hospital’s chief, Dr. Jose Chan, said.

The first reported patients with COVID-19 in Eastern Visayas and Zamboanga City had also traveled from Manila.
