Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 22) — The Government Service Insurance System will release the pension scheduled for April earlier as part of its aid to people hit by the COVID-19 crisis.

GSIS General Manager Rolando Macasaet said Sunday in a statement that retired government employees can expect their pension earlier than April 8, when it is usually released.

Aside from this, the GSIS also extended the grace period to May 10 for the payment of premiums and loans, which should have been paid this month. It also extended the deadline for housing loan payments to May 10.

The GSIS is also offering an emergency loan to active members and pensioners worth P20,000 with an interest rate of six percent and is payable in three years.

GSIS said that while their offices remain closed until April 12 amid the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon, members and pensioners may apply for loans through kiosks installed at government offices and malls nationwide.
