Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 20) – The local government of Manila waived rental fees for market vendors and stall owners as access is restricted in Luzon over the COVID-19 pandemic.

Resolution 85 series of 2020 suspended rent payment during the quarantine that ends on April 13.

“(The city council) grants a moratorium to all market stallholders within the City of Manila, whether public or privatized, from paying their rents for the duration of the enhanced community quarantine due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19),” read the resolution.

Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso earlier said some establishments have waived rental fees of stall owners.

The quarantine allows limited daily operation of establishments offering basic necessities like groceries, pharmacies, hospitals, and banks.

According to the Trade department ’s Memorandum Circular 20-04, “lessors and owners of business spaces shall share the responsibility by waiving the corresponding rental fees and charges that were closed during the one-month period of general community quarantine.”

Some mall chains have waived rental charges to tenants and retail partners.
