Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 19) – The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) developed a local version of ethyl alcohol following a shortage in the market in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.
PUP’s Institute for Science and Technology Research (ISTR) produced the first batch of ethyl alcohol last March 11. The school assured it followed the requirements and standards of the Food and Drug Administration.
ISTR Director Dr. Armin S. Coronado said larger batches will be manufactured as soon as raw materials are available sometime next week.
ISTR says the goal is to produce at least 20 gallons per month.
PUP said the manufacture and distribution of the local ethyl alcohol is expected to start before the end of March.
