Pampanga records first coronavirus case

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 13) — Pampanga has recorded its first case of the coronavirus disease, Governor Dennis Pineda announced on Friday.

Pineda said the patient is a driver for ride-hailing company Grab, based in the Clark Freeport. The driver has been bringing passengers around the province, Pineda said. The patient is currently admitted in a private hospital in Metro Manila.

The governor has since suspended classes in all levels, public and private, in the whole province beginning March 16 until further notice.

The local government is also tracking people who have made contact with the patient, he added.

The Philippines has 64 confirmed COVID-19 cases as of Friday. However, in the Health Department’s latest tally, there was no patient recorded from Pampanga.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
