Pangasinan town mayor negative for coronavirus after contact with Fil-Aussie patient

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 10) — Weight has been lifted off the chest of a mayor in a Pangasinan municipality who tested negative for coronavirus after coming in contact with a patient.

Lingayen Mayor Leopoldo Bataoil attended the same event as the Filipino-Australian woman in Pangasinan. She later tested positive for coronavirus disease or COVID-19 after returning to Australia on March 3.

“God is truly good to us, the RITM result just came in, I am negative of COVID-19… Thank God, now I can go on performing my work without any worry. I’ve been stressed so many nights,” he wrote on his Facebook page.

Although he was not showing flu-like symptoms within the 14-day incubation period, he said he volunteered for testing at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine to allay the fears of his constituents.

Bataoil earlier said that the Filipino woman attended a high school reunion in Pangasinan. The mayor was a guest at the event.
