Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 10) — All University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) on March 10 to 17 are suspended as the number of confirmed coronavirus cases rise.
“In an emergency meeting, the UAAP board of managing directors unanimously decided to extend the suspension of all UAAP events until Tuesday, March 17, to give everyone concerned enough time to adjust to the current situation,” the UAAP said in a statement on Tuesday.
It said a new announcement will be made on March 16 as to how the league will proceed with the rest of Season 82.
Men’s and women’s volleyball and football matches were initially scheduled this week. On Monday, the championship games in the high school basketball tournament were held behind closed doors.
This is the second time UAAP suspended its events due to the highly-contagious disease.
Cases in the Philippines more than doubled overnight, now with a total of 24 cases — mostly recorded in Metro Manila.
