Thousands join Traslacion in Cagayan de Oro

Cagayan de Oro (CNN Philippines, January 9) — Around 250,000 devotees joined the two-hour procession of the Black Nazarene in Cagayan de Oro City on Thursday, police said.

The religious activity started from the St. Augustine Cathedral around 5:15 a.m. — an hour later than the same procession held in Manila.

After traveling 1.5 kilometers, the image of the Black Nazarene arrived at the Nazareno Church at 7:15 a.m.

The night before the procession, the replica of the Black Nazarene was transferred from the Nazareno Church to the St. Augustine Cathedral for the vigil.

Authorities said the Traslacion was peaceful, crediting the public’s support for the implemented security measures.

Police said two persons fainted, but were immediately given attention.

CNN Philippines stringer Alwen Saliring contributed to this report.
