Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 21) — A Chinese national died while 27 other people were rescued after a tourist boat capsized in waters off Barangay Balabag, Boracay Island Tuesday morning.
The Philippine Coast Guard said its rescue team failed to revive a 45-year-old Chinese woman despite performing CPR or cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Three more female Chinese visitors were brought to the nearest hospital, including an 11-year-old and two adults aged 24 and 60. “They have regained consciousness and are declared safe and in good condition,” the Coast Guard said.
The remaining survivors – including two Filipino tour guides, two crew members, and the boat’s captain – were unharmed.
The PCG said motorbanca “Jocelyn 1” capsized at around 11:00 a.m. after strong winds broke its outrigger or the pole on the side of the boat that makes it stable.
