Robinsons Retail earnings slightly up in H1

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 5) — Robinsons Retail Holdings Inc. (RRHI) recorded a mild increase in net income for the first half of 2021, it revealed in a recent regulatory filing.

In a disclosure to the local bourse on Wednesday, the retail giant reported ₱1.66 billion in earnings attributable to parent equity holders from January to June. This is up 1.7% from the similar period last year.

In terms of quarterly performance, net sales grew by 2.7% to ₱35.8 billion in the second quarter of 2021, with most of RRHI’s segments seeing stronger performances due to longer operating days despite the return of restrictions around April.

While sales figures were lower for the first semester of the year given lower supermarket sales, the listed firm noted this was “partially buoyed” by robust improvements in the Do-It-Yourself and drugstore segments.

“E-commerce sales surged 4 times in the first half of the year. GoRobinsons, the company’s ecommerce platform, now operates a total of eight banners,” RRHI said.

RRHI likewise noted its investment in e-commerce platform Edamama, which allows mothers easier online access to quality baby products and services, and latest funding in G2M owner Growsari.

Growsari is a tech-enabled business-to-business platform providing sari-sari store owners with inventory, infrastructure and tools for business growth and management, it explained, adding Robinsons Supermarket will be the source of goods sold in these stores.

“The advances in our second quarter results and our capability to remain agile keep us confident despite continuing uncertainties in the operating environment,” said RRHI president and chief executive officer Robina Gokongwei-Pe, who also pinned hopes on the national vaccine drive picking up speed to keep their recovery on track.

“We will stay focused on delivering to customer needs while we continue to leverage on opportunities in e-commerce,” she added.
