Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 25) — It is possible that the National Capital Region will hit 50% of its target vaccination by the end of August, according to Metropolitan Manila Development Authority chairperson Benhur Abalos.
At a forum with the Filipino-Chinese Chamber on Wednesday, Abalos said that around 43.75% of the eligible recipients in the region are fully vaccinated, and around 76% are waiting for their second dose.
“It’s like that, we really have to vaccinate. We are at 43.75 percent. Hopefully by the end of the month we can hit 50 percent (fully vaccinated). There are those LGUs that are almost finished (with vaccinations),” he said.
According to data from the Department of Health, 11.7 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have already been administered in the NCR.
According to Abalos, 92% of senior citizens in Metro Manila have received the first dose of the vaccine.
Earlier, Abalos announced that local government units that are nearing completion with their vaccination drive have opened their doors to non-residents.
“Instead of closing down, why don’t we let them open? Because they have doctors and inoculators. Naka-setup na eh (everything has been set up),” said Abalos.
