Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 11) — Malacañang is giving incentives worth ₱500,000 to 1996 Olympic silver medalist Mansueto “Onyok” Velasco who did not receive all the rewards promised to him, according to a senator close to President Rodrigo Duterte.
“The Office of the President is currently processing the provision of financial assistance amounting to ₱500,000 pesos for Velasco,” Sen. Bong Go said on Tuesday.
Velasco revealed that not all the pledges materialized after he bagged the Olympic silver medal in the light-flyweight category at the 1996 Atlanta Summer Games. He wished that the Filipino athletes who won medals at the recently concluded Tokyo Olympics would receive all the rewards promised to them.
The Palace on Aug. 5 said it would raise the issue to the President.
