Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 9) – Kaya-Iloilo endured a sorry 1-0 loss against BG Pathum United in the 2021 Asian Football Confederation Champions League on Thursday at the Pathum Thani Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Philippines Football League runner-up was on defensive mode throughout the whole match as they engaged in more counter-attacks, but fail to get clear looks in scoring the goal.
The Thai League 1 champions got their lucky break in the 83rd minute when Thai midfielder Sarach Yooyen fired the goal on the left side of the box in a corner play.
BG Pathum United outnumbered Kaya-Iloilo in attempted shots, 30-5, after they had several moments in securing the match lead.
Kaya defender Simone Rota was on alert to deflect the shots of Brazilian reinforcement Diogo Luís Santo in the fourth minute and Yooyen in the 57th minute.
The Graham Harvey-mentored Philippine squad’s best opportunity for a goal was in the 70th minute when Jarvey Gayoso sent a curling cross to Kenshiro Daniels, whose shot was denied by Thai goalkeeper Chatchai Budprom.
Kaya-Iloilo seeks to close their maiden AFC Champions League campaign on a positive note against Viettel FC on July 11.
