DOTr opens PH’s longest bike lane network

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 27) – The Department of Transportation on Tuesday inaugurated the 313-kilometer bike lane network, the longest in the country, which passes through 12 cities in Metro Manila.

The Metro Manila Bike Lane Network cuts through Pasig, Marikina, Quezon City, Caloocan, Manila, San Juan, Mandaluyong, Makati, Pasay, Las Piñas, Parañaque, and Taguig, the DOTr said in a statement.

The lanes measure between 1.5 to 3 meters in width depending on the road’s configuration, the department added.

The network forms part of the completed 497-kilometer bike lanes created in Metro Cebu and Metro Davao.

Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade said the Metro Manila bike lanes have concrete delineators and flexible rubber bollards to separate bikers from motor vehicles.

He added that the bike lanes also have white and green pavement markings that used thermoplastic paint, bollards bolted to the ground, bike symbols and signages, solar-powered road studs, and bike racks.

The bike lanes can accommodate 1,250 cyclists per hour for every meter of road space, according to the DOTr.
