Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 23) — Juan Gomez de Liaño is heading to Japan after signing with second division team Earth Friends Tokyo Z in the professional basketball league.
The team announced Wednesday the signing of De Liaño, the latest Filipino to suit up as an Asian Players Quota import.
“I am honored to be part of the Earth Friends Tokyo Z Team. I am very excited to battle it out and compete with you guys all throughout the season, and to be part of this journey. I am looking forward to meeting you guys soon,” the former University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons standout said.
De Liaño last saw hardcourt action with Gilas Pilipinas in the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers where he averaged 12 points, three rebounds, and three assists in three outings.
Earth Friends Tokyo Z finished at 15th place with a 13-46 win-loss slate last season in the second division.
