PBA awaits IATF nod on Season 46 opening

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 22) – The Inter-Agency Task Force now holds the ball in deciding the fate of the Philippine Basketball Association’s 46th season.

PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial said they submitted on Monday its position papers to the inter-agency government body, which include health and safety protocols the league will implement in the season-opening Philippine Cup.

“We presented the success of the last all-Filipino tourney where we’re able to protect the integrity of the bubble. And we also cited the ongoing team practices and scrimmages where COVID cases have been minimal to none,” said Marcial.

Marcial said the IATF promised them that the Season 46 opening will be included in the agenda of the task force’s next meeting.

The PBA commissioner earlier said they are targeting the opening date for Season 46 in the last week of June or first week of July.

Marcial added that the Ynares Center in Antipolo City in Rizal and the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City are the possible playing venues.

The 12 teams are currently practicing in Batangas and Laoag City, Ilocos Norte for the possible opening as scrimmages are not permitted in areas under NCR Plus.
