MMDA advises motorists: Keep your cool, check vehicles amid hot weather

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 10) – The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority advised motorists to check on their physical state and the condition of their vehicles amid the hot weather in Metro Manila.

“They need to avoid driving on excessively hot roads. You have to check on your physical condition, especially riders who have comorbidities like high blood (pressure),” MMDA Spokesperson Celine Pialago Pialago told CNN Philippines’ Traffic Center on Monday.

Pialago suggested bringing water and food while on the road to help motorists avoid dehydration and discomfort that could lead to road rage.

The spokesperson reminded drivers to always check the condition of their vehicles, such as a running battery and a well-maintained cooling system. She also said they should always be prepared for a car breakdown.

“They have to make sure that their vehicle has plenty of fluids like motor oil, transmission fluid, power steering fluid, and brake fluid,” said Pialago.

PAGASA recorded on Monday a temperature of 34.8 degrees Celsius (°C) in its weather station in Quezon City, with a heat index of 39°C. The heat index at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City reached 43°C while the Port Area in Manila tallied 38°C.
