
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 5) — Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes said on Monday he tested positive for COVID-19.
“Nipaubos ko sa RT-PCR test tungod sa akong gipamatyag nga mga symptomas sa maong sakit kagahapon,” he said on Facebook.
[Translation: I underwent RT-PCR test because I have been exhibiting symptoms yesterday.]
Cortes said he is in isolation and only experiencing mild symptoms.
The mayor said government services in Mandaue will remain unhampered.
Cortes called on residents to continue observing health protocols.
Mandaue, a highly-urbanized city, is north of Cebu City.
As of April 4, it had a total of 5,807 cases of COVID-19 but only 862 are currently sick. Mandaue registered 202 deaths and 4,743 recoveries since the beginning of the pandemic.
