Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 26) – Former President Joseph Estrada will be discharged after almost a month of hospital confinement for contracting COVID-19, his son announced on Monday.
“We would like to express our gratitude to his doctors for their expertise and care. We would like to thank everyone who prayed with us and supported us through this harrowing experience,” former Senator Jinggoy Estrada said.
The 83-year-old former chief executive was rushed to the hospital on March 28 and has tested positive for COVID-19. He was sedated and moved to the intensive care unit on April 4.
Estrada was placed in a ventilator last April 6 due to his worsening pneumonia, but he recovered days after.
The former president tested negative for COVID-19 last April 13.
Estrada was brought back to the intensive care unit on April 16 after doctors discovered a bacterial infection on his lung. He returned to a regular room on April 20 and continued his recovery in the hospital.
