Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 8) — Netflix has found its feisty protagonists for the much-anticipated anime series based on popular Philippine graphic novel “Trese.”
Filipino actress Liza Soberano and Canadian actress with Filipino heritage Shay Mitchell are voicing the role of mysterious detective Alexandra Trese.
Netflix on Monday said Liza will voice Alexandra in Filipino and Shay will voice her in English. The announcement was made on the video streaming giant’s social media pages in time for the celebration of International Women’s Day.
Soberano is excited to take on the role.
The horror and urban fantasy series follows the story of Alexandra Trese, who finds herself going head-to-head with a “criminal underworld” composed of supernatural beings.
The original comic, set in Manila, was created by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo.
Netflix first announced the production of the series for the platform back in 2018.
Screaming on the inside!!!!!!
It’s an honor to be the voice of an iconic character such as Alexandra Trese. I’m a huge fan of Budjette and KaJO’s award-winning Trese comics. Maraming salamat! Excited nako! ❤️ #Trese #Netflix @Netflix_PH @shaymitch pic.twitter.com/QjCI9EAquY— Liza Soberano (@lizasoberano) March 8, 2021
