Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 24) — Another lawmaker from the House of Representatives has tested positive for COVID-19.
Abra Rep. Joseph “JB” Bernos confirmed he got infected by the coronavirus after receiving his swab test result early Wednesday. He said he is asymptomatic and is undergoing home quarantine.
“It is unfortunate that despite following strict protocols, I have contracted the virus due to numerous unavoidable commitments,” he said in a statement.
Bernos advises those who have been in contact with him for the past days to take precautionary measures and observe themselves for possible symptoms.
“I ask for your prayers not only for me but for our entire country facing this pandemic, that the virus may be eradicated soon so that we can return to be in the service of our fellow Filipinos,” he added.
The lower house implemented a lockdown until March 24 after three lawmakers—Negros Oriental Rep. Jocelyn Limkaichong, Anakalusugan Party-list Rep. Mike Defensor, and House Majority Leader Martin Romualdez—earlier announced they tested positive as well.
As of Tuesday, the House of Representatives has recorded a total of 277 COVID-19 cases, with 227 recoveries and 7 deaths.
