Arci Muñoz on choosing roles: I want to portray strong, empowered woman

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 22) — Actress Arci Muñoz admits being choosy with roles, saying she wants to inspire women with every character she portrays.

“Yes, namimili po ako ng role (Yes, I always choose my roles) and I want a strong, empowered woman in every role that I take,” said the 32-year-old actress in an interview with CNN Philippines’ News Night.

Muñoz said she has never played a weak character in any of her projects.

“Wala akong nagawang pelikula o isang show na hindi palaban ang role ko. So every time na may role akong gagawin, kahit kunwari the story is the girl is heartbroken, so she rises up from that,” she said.

“So right now, women know what they deserve and they do fight for that,” Muñoz added.

She said she wants women to feel empowered through her characters in movies and in television shows.

“I want to use this platform to influence women,” she said. “Gusto ko na nakakapag-reach out ako sa mga kababaihan na kahit kunwari nasasaktan tayo, pagkatapos nito we will rise above all the challenges in our lives.”

Aside from acting, Muñoz is also a Philippine Air Force reservist. She finished the basic citizen’s military training in October last year.

The actress, who is now a sergeant in the PAF Reserve Command, is encouraging other women to join the military.

“Well, actually, my goal really when I entered the military training is to inspire all women of this generation to believe that they can make a difference and they also can serve the country,” she said.
