GAB chairman Baham Mitra contracts COVID-19

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 17) – Games and Amusements Board chairman Abraham “Baham” Mitra tested positive for COVID-19, his brother Jorge confirmed in his social media post on Tuesday.

Jorge said his younger brother Baham received a positive result from his saliva test. He added Baham is staying in a quarantine facility in Puerto Princesa City and will undergo isolation for the next 14 days.

“In Palawan and for the sports world, he is your brother too,” said Jorge.

During the pandemic, the younger Mitra has been busy in professionalizing new leagues such as the Chooks-To-Go Pilipinas 3×3, Premier Volleyball League, and Professional Chess Association of the Philippines.

This is in compliance with the joint administrative order signed by GAB, Department of Health, and Philippine Sports Commission which allows only professional leagues to be played amid the pandemic.

Mitra has also observed in boxing events and other professional sports leagues that commenced during the pandemic.

“Baham has always followed all safety protocols, especially in his recent travels to other provinces in connection with his work,” Jorge added.
