Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 10) — Of the 654 examinees in last year’s special Bar exam for Shari’ah courts, a tenth made the cut, according to the Supreme Court.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the SC cited Court of Appeals Justice Japar Dimaampao, exam committee chairperson, as saying these results “will go down in history as the second lowest passing percentage.” The percentage was 10.86% or 71 passers. The lowest was in 1983, when only 7.69% or 14 of the Bar takers passed, the high court said.
The topnotcher for the tests held in January 2020 was Mohammad Hisham Mocsir, who scored 87.075%.
Also in the top 10 are Ramayana Saidamen (86.975%); Mohammad Mojib Marangit (85.075%); Julamin Paglala (84.625%); Ainah Pumbaya (83.525%); Sittie Ainah Ali (83.200%); Nasihah Mamarungas (82.075%); Johari Abubacar (82.025%); Raima Panandigan (81.100%); and Nornisah Taha (80.950%).
Shari’ah or Islamic law pertains to all ordinances and regulations governing Muslims. The special Bar exam for Shari’ah courts is authorized by the SC and is administered by the Office of the Bar Confidant.
