Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 18) – A prime suspect in the 2019 killing of four policemen in Negros Oriental was killed in a clash with operatives early Thursday in Mandaluyong City.
The Philippine National Police identified the suspect as Ryan Manguilimutan, also known as “James” and “Ka Ignacio.”
PNP chief Gen. Debold Sinas said Manguilimutan was recruited by a rebel group in 2013.
The PNP said the suspect and six other members of the rebel group intercepted and brutally murdered the four police officers from the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 7, who were gathering information in Barangay Mabato in Ayungon town last July 2019.
The suspects took the victims’ firearms and personal belongings.
Authorities retrieved during Thursday’s operation one pistol which was issued to one of the slain cops, ammunition, and a brown sling bag containing Manguilimutan’s belongings, among others.
