Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 24) — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has deployed vessels to conduct search and rescue operations for seven Chinese fishermen who reportedly went missing near Pag-asa Island.

The PCG on Friday said it sent out three vessels following a request from the Chinese Embassy.

According to the PCG, the embassy sought assistance after the Chinese Coast Guard failed to locate the fishermen, who were reported missing on Dec. 10 – a few days before Typhoon Odette battered the country.

PCG Commandant Admiral Leopoldo Laroya also directed the Palawan Coast Guard to assist and issue notice to mariners to be on the lookout for any sightings of the Chinese fishermen.
