Sofia Frank breaks 8-year spell for PH, qualifies for junior skating worlds

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 10) – Filipino American teenage skater Sofia Frank officially qualified for the 2022 World Junior Figure Skating Championships as she finished in the upper half of the 15th Santa Claus Cup in Hungary.

Frank became the first Filipina to qualify in the prestigious international juniors skating tournament after eight years since Alisson Perticheto reached the world tilt in 2013 in Milan, Italy.

The 16-year-old California-born skater finished 13th overall out of 42 skaters, backed by a strong finish in the free skate category.

Frank landed a ninth place finish in the free skate program with 99.94 points, just a hairline shy of eighth placer Maria Seniuk of Israel who garnered 99.97 points.

She only ranked 23rd in the short program with 42.97 points.

The 2022 World Junior Figure Skating Championships is slated from March 7 to13 in Sofia, Bulgaria.
