In a statement on Sunday, the MRT-3 management said four males and four females sustained minor bruises on their arms and legs after jumping off the train onto the mainline tracks.
The fire started at around 9:12 p.m. in the last car of a northbound train at the interstation of Buendia and Guadalupe, the management said.
Authorities declared they had put out the fire by 9:51 p.m.
“We extend our deepest apologies to all our passengers who were affected by the incident, and that we are examining all possible angles to accurately determine its cause,” the MRT-3 management wrote.
MRT-3’s maintenance provider Sumitomo Corporation also issued an apology and vowed it was taking countermeasures, together with the train management, to prevent a repeat of the incident.
In November 2019, a MRT-3 train coach emitted smoke as it was traveling south from the Santolan Station, forcing more than 500 passengers to be unloaded.
