Barangay chairman in Basilan arrested for 2004 killing of businessman

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 28) — Authorities arrested on Thursday the barangay chairman of Marang in Sumisi, Basilan over the killing of a businessman in 2004.

The Philippine National Police said it arrested barangay chairman Jamiron Ajijon, also known as “Jamirun Amigos,” inside the barangay hall at around 1:30 a.m. of January 28. He is tagged as the prime suspect in the assassination of businessman Roberto Musablin on Sept. 6, 2004 in Brgy. Manaul of the same municipality.

The local official is also identified as the leader of the “City Hunter” gun-for-hire group allegedly involved in the kidnapping of a couple in the town of Maluso, as well as of Yahong Tan Lim in Isabela City, in 2014.

Police confiscated from Ajijon an M-16 rifle and a caliber .45 pistol.

Also arrested in the same operation was Bassel Ajijon Eting, another suspected member of the gun-for-hire group. Eting will face charges for illegal possession of firearms. Meanwhile, the PNP said two other individuals were held for questioning.

The arrested suspects were brought to the Anti-Kidnapping Group Mindanao Field Office in Zamboanga City for documentation and investigation.
