Metro Manila, Philippines – De La Salle University refused to go down without a fight as the Green Archers took down top seed National University (NU) Bulldogs, 87-77, to force a rubber match in their UAAP Season 88 Final Four showdown on Wednesday, Dec. 3, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
With their backs against the wall, the Green Archers made sure their semifinals clash will be decided in a winner-take-all game.
Jacob Cortez provided the offensive spark for La Salle with 13 points and four assists.
The Green Archers unleashed a 22-9 start in the first quarter and it was the push they needed to maintain the distance and grab the victory.
It was a collective effort from La Salle as eight of its players tallied at least eight points in the match.
Kean Baclaan, who made his return for the Green Archers after missing eight games in the elimination round due to an MCL injury, made a field goal and converted four free throws in 19 minutes of action.
Jake Figueroa posted 20 markers and grabbed 10 boards for the Bulldogs.
The do-or-die game is on Dec. 6.
