President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. expressed profound sadness over the Queen’s death, saying she exemplified great dignity, commitment to duty, and devotion to all those in her realm.
“The world has lost a true figure of majesty in what she demonstrated throughout her life and throughout her reign as Queen,” he said in a statement posted on his official social media pages.
Marcos also sent a formal letter to the Royal Family, signing the condolence book at the British Embassy in Manila.
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 9) — Philippine officials on Friday joined other world leaders in mourning the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning British monarch.
Senate President Migz Zubiri likewise sent his sympathies to the British community, noting how the Queen was “loved and respected” all over the world.
House Speaker Martin Romualdez mourned the loss of a leader who served as an “inspiration to many generations of public servants.”
“We will remember her as a gentle, yet solid rock of stability who exhibited grace and decency in performing her duty in times of crisis. Her name will never be forgotten, and her memories as a great monarch will remain etched in our hearts forever,” he said.
Meanwhile, Philippine Ambassador to the United Kingdom Teodoro Locsin Jr. said he traveled from Paris to London after hearing the news. He extended his condolences to British Ambassador to the Philippines Laure Beaufils.
“Filipinos never faltered in their love of the English Queen,” he said in a series of tweets on Friday. “Please accept our deepest humble condolences on your people’s and the world’s immeasurable loss.”
Queen Elizabeth II died at the age of 96 at Balmoral Castle, the royal family’s vacation home in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
Following her death, her eldest son Charles has ascended to the British throne after more than 70 years as the heir apparent. He will now be known as King Charles III.
